What We're Taking to CanGift 2019
Packing for a trip can go one of two ways: either you’re prepared like you’re anticipating a zombie apocalypse or you think you remembered everything only to realize, once you’ve already arrived, that you forgot everything important including your toothbrush.
The road to CanGift (the biggest gift and tableware trade show in Canada) has been a busy one for us. Our studio is full of Ikea furniture (that we built ourselves!) and the smell of paint as we build our brand new display from the ground up. With perfecting the display in the forefront of our minds, the ladies of Lover’s Tempo haven’t had much time to think about the trip from Vancouver to Toronto, let alone what we’re packing in our suitcases. That’s why we decided to sit down and talk about what we’re bringing, because it’s not only the jewelry and display props that are travelling across the country in August.
Since the countdown to the show is officially on, here’s what the ladies from Lover’s Tempo never travel without!
Our founder Elaine is no stranger to air travel. Fun fact: she’s been working as a flight attendant for the past 11 years! Her carry-on essentials feature an engaging book, noise-cancelling headphones and good old h2o.
A Good Book
Elaine likes to have something she can pull out and dive into at the beginning of the flight during the hectic boarding, announcements, people settling etc. Her current reading material is Braving the Wilderness: The Quest For True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone by Brene Brown.
Bose Noise-Cancelling Headphones
Even if she’s not listening to anything, she says the noise-cancelling feature of these Bose headphones are a lifesaver when you need some peace and quiet during the flight.
Her Own Water
She says, and I quote, “I've heard bad stories about airplane water…” She’s never without her favourite Corkcicle water bottle.
For Vanessa, our Customer service manager (and Queen of everything in the office to be honest), her carry on essentials are pretty simple: good headphones (a recurring item), a charging cable for her phone and a few choice snacks to get her through the flight.
Beats Over-the-Ear Headphones
Whether you’re trying to tune out the inevitable crying baby on your flight or the person beside you who’s breathing too loud, no in-flight carry-on should be without a good pair of headphones. Vanessa brings her bluetooth Beats headphones whenever she travels.
Listening to music, reading, watching movies, getting work done, you can literally do it all on your phone nowadays. Keeping your phone full of juice on a long flight is essential, so Vanessa makes sure to keep her precious charging cable close while she’s travelling.
No trip is complete without an abundance of snacks on hand. Does anyone actually enjoy plane food?! Vanessa’s faves are BBQ Lays chips and a Snickers.
Our other owner Leslie has very practical needs when it comes to packing her carry-on. For this trip she will have her hands full, literally, with newborn baby Finley.
The Giantest Bottle of Water She Can Carry
This huge Corkcicle bottle usually does the trick. Leslie says she had to start bringing her own water because Elaine won’t share hers with her anymore. (She drinks it all!)
A Yummy Snack
All dressed crispers are her go-to plane snack. According to Leslie they pair really nicely with a tiny bottle of red wine, she learned this delightful duo from Elaine on one of their first trips together back in 2017.
Comfortable clothes are a necessity for Leslie, as well as a back-up pair! When travelling with two kids, you never know what’s going to happen, or when you’re going to need an emergency clothing change. Her fave lululemon leggings are essential (the ones with pockets are a MUST!).
